old fashioned stovetop fudge

this is my grandmother skinner's recipe for fudge. it is very labor intensive and requires constant stirring for hours, but the results are delicious.

fudge squares

1 cup whole milk (or cream)

1 cup sugar

1 tbsp. butter

1 tbsp. cocoa

1/2 tbsp. karo syrup

cook on stovetop on low heat and stir constantly (roughly 2-3 hours). At soft ball stage (around 235° F), remove from heat. Next stir in 1 tsp. vanilla. let cool before serving.

(can optionally add 1/2 cup of nuts, dried fruit, or crushed peppermint after its been taken off the heat).
